Brian Nixon - Liberty County High School
I was raised in an educated family that strongly believed in the importance of learning. I was taught to read, listen, question, and perform. Simply, I was raised to think! My basic teaching philosophy is to help students think. As I look back, I realize that many of the people who nurtured me, challenged me, made me mad, and truly cared, were my teachers. Although I probably didn’t realize it then, I now appreciate how challenging teaching can be and how much teachers can influence a student’s life. We must always remember to use this position of authority to help a student along their path of self discovery, to challenge them, to help them learn to think, and to encourage their capabilities. This is no small task and it takes a truly devoted and caring person to do it well.
In recognition of my teaching I have been honored with the following awards: Recognition of Excellence Certificate from George Mason University, 2009 STAR Teacher for Liberty County High School, and Liberty County High School Teacher of the Year for 2011.
